It's Property Tax Time!

Do You Qualify for the 2006 Homeowner Grant?

You've likely received your 2006 Property Tax Notice in the mail by now.

Remember that British Columbians received some welcome news from the provincial government when it was announced in the spring budget that for the 2006 Tax Year the basic homeowner grant has been increased to $570 from $470.

For homeowners aged 65 or over, disabled or a veteran, the grant has been increased to $845 from $745 last year.  In recognition of rising home values, the threshold at which the homeowner grant starts to phase out is now $780,000, a $95,000 increase from last year.

Homeowners with disabilities may now qualify for an additional grant if they purchase a home which has received over $2,000 of disability-related upgrades or modifications.  Visit www.sbr.gov.bc.ca/rpt or complete the Homeowner Grant application you receive with your 2006 Property Tax Notice to determine your grant entitlement, if applicable.
